OPENING OF THE INQUEST.
I FORMAL EVIDENCE TAKEN. An inquest was opened at the Courthouse on Sunday morning by MtH. Eyre Kenny, S.M., District Coroner, and a jury, of. whom Mr E. E, Trask was chosen as foreman, touching the death of Mrs Lydia Tilbury, under circumstances detailed above. Sergeant Dougan appeared for the police, and Mr T. Edwards, District TratSc Manager, represented the : Kailway Department. : The Coroner stated that as some ' important witnesses would be unable to appear for some days, it was his intention to take only formal evidence of identification, and lolieve the husband. of deceased of further attendance. The inquiry would then be adjourned until a future date. The jury then viewed the body, after which Sergeant Dougan called ; Albert John Tilbury, husband of deceased, who said he was a market gardener residng at Lower Hutt. IHo had seen tbe body in the ? \ Morgue, which was that of his wife. '5 * He had come to Nelson with her on January 28tb, in company with Susan Walter his wife's sister, on a visit. On Friday they went to Mr Kingsland's, at Ap{.ieby. They were to return to Nelson on Saturday by the 1. 10 p.m. train. Mr Kingslund und witness went that morning for a bicycle ride, and arrauged with deceased and her sister to take the coach to Richmond I station, where- witness and Mr 1 Kingsland proposed joining them. I When they got there witness hoard /M» of the accident. Kingsland's place W was about "two miles from tbe scene ■ of the accident. Deceased's name I was LyfJia Tilbury, and she was 25 >! years of age. They did not know ■ that the railway timetable had been j altered on Saturday.
