ST. MARY'S PICNIC.
,As was fully anticipated, the picnic held at Tadnior proved a great sucecess, and the time was only too short to allow the whole of the'attractive programme prepared. The Committee, however, kept things moving briskly from start to finish, and igreat interest was taken in the competitions, some of which caused great fun. The tug-of-war was, after great excitement, and 'much struggling, won by. the country ' team on the third bout. In the children's tug-of-war the girls beat the boys. The . greasy pig chase was exciting, and great was the laughter when Mr P. Vaughan, the captor, with his prize in- his arms,fell into a dry ditch at the moment of victory. 'Mr Wallace won the young men's race, Mr Hayes prize: .Miss Norrie Hagen the y^ung latiies ? iace, Mr F. Harford's prize. The old maids' race ('ill over 25 eligible) wa3 well contested by a large number of entrants; as were (he married women's, married men's and other.races, while there were girls' and boys' races galore. Mr Uodgkinaon's grounds proved an ideal spot for picnioing, and the Committee are grateful to that gentleman for the permission given, also tor all donors of prizes. Hearty cheers were given for Mr Hcdgkin- - so:j as tlie train moved off. Mr Edward? and the railway staff did all that, was possible to assist, and their go Jd services were^ appreciated.
