OBITUARY.

MR. GEORGE BATOHELOR. The death occurred at Nelson on the 17th. January last of Mr George Batchelor, a very old and wellknown identity, at the age of 79 years Born at Wiltshire, England, Mr Batchelor emigrated to this country in 1842, arriving in tho Dominion by the "Little London," together with his parents, brothers and sisters. Mr Batchelor saw all the strenuous days of the settlement, got the gold fever, and took part in the rushes at Collingwood, Wakam'arina and Wangapeka. ■ tie resided in the city almost continuously except for a short visit to Sydney. He was a well-known sportsman, and no one was better known about town than deceased, who will be greatly missed by all. Uo leaves a widow, six daughters and two sons mourning him,
