THE CONFERENCE OF SCHOOL INSPECTORS.
THE RECOMMENDATIONS. At yesterday's meeting of the Education Board the Inspectors subTDittsd a report on the recent conference of School Inspectors. Some of the chief recommendations agreed to at the conference" were a3 foliows: — i 1. Amendments in regulations for inspectors and examination of schools —^a) Makine school year un-; ; iform throughout the colony", ali i promotions to take place at • the beginning of the school year, January , Ist. (b) Standard of exemption n,n- , der Education Act. 1904, section 142; to be Standard VI. (c) Examination for proficiency certificates to take ; place at the end of the year. 2. The consideration of the proposed rearrangement of the syllabus ! was deferred until the return of tl»e , Inspector - General from England and America. 3. Tbe medical examination of ! school children was considered de- . sirable, but the conference was not \ prepared to state the nature or ex- = tent of such examination. 4. That tbe centralisation of schools in country districts is highly . desirable, and that in a number of [ instances it could be successfully . carried out if the regulations were made more elastic and a more liberal allowance granted. 5. That the adult staff allowed by t*ie prosent scale is inadequate. ; 6. The gradual abolition of the ' present pupil teachers' system to be ' replaced by a system of education r and training of teachers. J 7. The Junior National Scholar--1 ship examination to be on linns of " Staudard VI. 8.
