Marton, September 19. Beautiful weather was experienced for the first day of the Rangifcikei races, the attendance being above the average. The totalisator inveatments totalled £5610 against £4818 for the corresponding day of last Spring meeting. The results were: — 9 Flying Handicap: Fontenoy 1, St. Bill 2, Tantoru 3. Scratched— Gleam, Splendid Idea, Miss Adelaide. Won easily. Time,lmin 18secs. Dividends. £4 11s and £1 l?s. Willowbank Handicap Steeple: Needlework 1, Peruvian % Narcissus 3. Scratched— Westward, Flanagan, Coroboree. Won easily by three lengths. Time, 4min 46 3-sth sees. Dividends, £4 Is and 16s. Pubehoe Hack Hurdles: General Peel 1, Bandmaster 2, Hydroacope 3. Scratched— Mahoe and Refine. Won by half a length. Time,2min 55 2-sth sees. Dividends. £2 5s and £2 Is. Maiden : Eruption 1, Seaman 2, Tomaira 3. Scratched— Asbphalt, Taupo, Uamvar, San Toy, Glen Gowne, Rendrock, and Buoyant. Won easily by two lengths. Time, lmin 3 3-sth sees. Dividends, £7 5s and £2 6s. Rangitikei Steeplechase: Roer 1, Hutana 2, South Star 3. Scratch ed— Towhatu, Needlework, and Starlight. Won all the way by a length. Time 4min ssecs. Dividends, £22 3s and £1 10s. Spring Handicap: Ngatura 1, Shrapnel 2, Montigo 3. Also ran— Crimson Lake. Won by two lengths. Time, 2min 1 3-sth sees. Dividend, £6 6s. Rangitoto Hack: Mataari 1, Rosegrove 2, Tiraumea 3. All started. Won by half a length. Time, lmin 46 4-sth sees. Dividends, £4 11s and £1 Bs.
