Dr. Maekay has received word that his son, Mr Lionel Maekay, who was educated at Wanganui College, has obtained hig B.A. degree.
Mr Bobert Hannaford, aged 25 years, has died at Waihi of enteric fever. Being a member of No. 3 Ohinemuri Rifles, he was given a military funeral. Madame Agnes Jansen, whose brother resides in Dunedin. has been appointed Chief Teacher of Singing at the Melbourne Conservatorium, Madame Jansen will be remembered as a favorite contralto of Musgrove's Grand Opera Company. The Rev. D. Borrie, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, owing to the unsatisfactory state of his haalth, has had to resign his charge in the north-East Valley, which he has held for the last 22 yearsMr J. A, Joske, a prominent Fiji merchant, is paying this Colon}- a visit. He will interview the Government relative to the Islands trade, Mr Justice Bucknill was recently one of the prize winners at the. Epsom District Rifle Club competition. The Club claims to be the oldest rifle club in England. Mr E. P. Bradlaugh, brother pf the famous agnostic, ha 3 appeared in the pulpit of the Stepney Tabernacle. Mr Bradlaagh is just as convinced a Christian as his brother was non-Christian. Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman (the English Premier) is interested in no form of sport. His one hobby is photography. Miss Olga Nethersole, during her successful tour in Canada, organised a charitable matinee in' aid of the Queen's Fund, and raised nearly £500,
