RICHMOND BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Richmond Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening. Present: ThG Mayor (Mr J. M. Croucher) in the chair, and Cfs Cblaman, Hunt, Sheat, Little, Hart, and Papps. The Secretary to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote furnishing an account for the Council's share of the cost of maintenance of the Consumptive Annexe for the first quarter of 1906. The amount w&s passed for payment.^ The Mayor remarking upon the fact that land in the Borough were being cut up into building sections, and i that there was a prospect of growth, thought that the Council should take measures to secure some further water rights in view of possible future needs. Several possible sources of supply were discussed, also the feasibility of tunnelling through the hill to the Roding river, where a supply might be obtained, not only for all domestic purposes, but also for the production of electric light. It was ultimately decided that a deputation from the Council inter» view Mr Conrad Saxton in regard to the rights to his creekCr Coleman drew attention of the Works Committee to a cuvlert on Wensley road, which he stated was of insufficient capacity in times of heavy rain. It was also reported that the culvert at the foot of Oxford street was in bad condition, and quite unsafo for heavy traffic. The Works Committee were requested to get the necessary repairs effected as soon as possible. Attention was drawn to the state of several road-side ditches, and to overhanging hedges, and growth of weeds on the streets and side paths The Town Clerk was instructed to 1 send notice to several residents to trim their hedges, and clear the 1 weeds and noxious growths from their frontages. A complaint was made of lads invading the bathing place at the beach during times when the same is reserved for tho use of ladies. It was resolved to rewrite and paint tho notice board defining the days on which the baths are reserved for the exclusive use of ladies, and to request the police to keep an eye on ; the boys on these days. Owing to the licensing election taking place on the second Tuesday in March, the Clerk requested thai ; the next meeting of the Council might be held on another date, and it was resolved accordingly that the next meeting of the Council bo held on Wednesday, the 11th March.
