DROWNING OF HERBERT THOMAS.
Auckland, February 10. Further particulars regarding the drowning of the young man Darned Herberb Thomas off Motufcapu, show that he got into a dingy intending to row to a neighboring vessel to get some bait. When some yards ofi', he lost an oar and plunged over to recover it. He caught it, and turned to swim back. He was plainly visible in the moonlight, when to the horror of his companions he suddenly sank beneath the surface. As he did not rise again those on board set sail and cruised round in the vicinity of the spot, but no sign of the unfortunate young man could be seen. As he was an expert Bwimmer they came to the conclusion that ixe had been seized by a shark. The missing young man was employed on the mechanical staff of His Majesty's Theatre, and his father is aimilarly employed with McMahon Dramatic Company. Young Thomas was one of Knight-Jeffries Company's most valued assistants.
