Judge Kenny, Chairman of the Kailway 'Appeal Board, is at present in Auckland, hearing an appeal case. He will return to Nelson early next week. Mrs "Eleanor Bryant, who for 30 years, lived in Oharin Valley, has passed away. The Otago University Council has appointed Mr William Arthur Mason as Registrar, vice Mr J. M. E. Garow, resigned. Mr J. S. Holmes has been appointed Chairman of the Oamaru Harbor Board for the tenth successive year. Mr Henry J. Wickes, on leaving Greymouth to take up a position at Christchurch, received several presentations. Mr John McCarthy, journalist, died at Greymouth last week. He was a native of the West Coast. Mr W. A. Bowring, the well-known Christchurch sketch artist and cartoonist, who was connected with the "Weekly Press" for some years, is leaving the Colony to try his talent in London. The Christchurch citizens gave him a purse of sovereigns. $§&■ Mr and Mrs William Freeman, of Thorndon, Wellington, have celebrated their golden wedding this eek. They came to this Colony in 1855. Mr J. L. Stout, eldest son of the Chief Justice,, has been admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of New Zealand. He enters Dr. Findlay's office at Wellington. i Coucillor Devine has announced himself as a candidate for the Mayoralty of Welllington. Mr H. Stead, who conducts the Australasian edition of the "Review of Reviews, " is about to visit New Zealand. Mr Stead is a son of Mr W. T. Stead.
