We are informed that a very handsome gift is abont ta be made to tho citizens of Nelson under the fol owing oiroumetanoes. Some of the L.te Bishop Sf-ter's friends desired to perpstu^ta his memory by a memorial in some permanent form. As upon a previous occaaion a earn of money hai been raised to make a presentation to him before his departure for England, whioh was then contemplated, and as this money was sail ia hand, the disposal of tlat bad to be oonsidered. When the Bishop's intended visit Home had been Btopped by his attack of illnese, Mr* Bater was consulted as to the disposal of that money, with the result tuat the expenditure of it waß deferred. Afier the deoeaee of Bishop Su'er, it appeared only oourteous to consult Mrs Suter again, and on being appr.oaob.ed Bhe enquired what form it had been suggested that auy memorial should take. Several suggestions w^re mentioned to her. That, however, of which she approved most) highly was the founding of an Art Gallery. She said that it hid been a cherished wish of Bishop Suter to present such a building to the oiiizsns of Neißon, and toe works of art he purchased had besa procured with that view. She alfo i aid the was prepared, if Eisht p Sutar's friends consent -d, and the memorial took that form, to give works o( art to form a nnoleus of an Art Ga.lery, and aho a site for the ereotion of a suitable boi!d:ng, all to be vested in tros;e s appointed for the purpose.
