NELSON REGATTA.
A w^Lii attended meeting of citizens was held last evening at the Masonic Hotel, when the Major was vited to the chair. 'J he Chairman eaid the meeting was called to hear, the opinion of the different persons who took an interest ia a regatta. He did not see why a regatta should not be held, and why it should not be a success. He referred to the breaking up of the Wakatu Boating Club, which was to be regretted. With energy and perseverance combined he felt sure all difficulties could be overcome, and a very successful regatta held. With a good Secretary and energetic canvassers they were bound to meet wiih success. Mr Hamilton, the cordial manufacturer, who could not be present at the meeting, had told him to put him down for a guinea subscription. (Applause.) There was a balance of £45 in hand, but he urged that the canvassers should work, as the £45 might easily be swallowed up. They should work with their whole heart and soul, for if they had a balance left over it would be all the better. Me Fell said, owing to an important regatta being held at Pioton, they had allowed one year to go by. A regatta had been held lor many yeajs st Nelson, and it was a day looked forwaid to with pleasure by a great number of people. Ec felt sure thnt they might look forward to a visit from the kin ire d clubs of Wellington, Wanganui, Picton, and perhaps Bleabeim. The attendance at that meeting was an indication that they desirtdthat a regatta Eh cud be held. He made a motion to that effect. Seconded by Mr J. Polloob, and carried unanimously. Mr W. Kogers said the tide would not euit on Boxing Day, Im the one on January Ist would be at half-past twelve, which wou'd be a very good time. The- Chairman proposed, end Mr Bogers seconded, that Mr 0. Y. Fell be Gommcdore, and Pilot Lswe Vice-Commodore. Carried unanimously. Mr J. Pollock proposed, and Mr H. V. Gul y seconded, that Mr W. B gera be Secretary. Carried unanimously. Mr Rogeis suggested that an assistant Secretary ehoald be elected. The matter was left to Mr Rcgera to make his own eh ice of an assistant. Mr Pollook proposed, and Mr Fell seoonded. that Mr Tiabk bs re-aleoted as Treasurer, Carried unanimously. The canvas ers were elected as follows : — MeEßrs Pollock and Fell, Trafalgar street. Messrs F. Hamilton, junr., and N. Levien, Bridge street. Messrs Sorcinelli, R. Lowe, and the Secretary, the Port. Messrs Curtis and Catley, Wairaea and Collingwood sreets, and outlying districts. Me£3.s H. V- Gully and E. Jackson, Hardy street. The Sailing Commntee was next chosen, and the following wt re declared elected : — Messrs Lukins, Sorcinelli, Pollock, A. Jones, Catley, Curtis, Symons, Levien, Scully, Frel Hamilton, and Maginnity. Mr Fell proposed, and Mr Pollock seconded, that the shore sports be left to the Sailing Committee. Carried unanimously. Mr Fell proposed, and Mr H. V. Gully seconded, that the r6gatta beheld on January Ist next. It was resolved that a meeting of the Failing Committee be held in a fortnight, the canvassers to report at that meeting. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr J. M. Eogers, the termer Secreta-y, and a like compliment wai paid to the Chairman. Subscriptions amounting to over £10 were {.remised in the room. The proceedings then terminated.
