Auckland, October 4. j The death i 3 announced of the Rev. j Gideon Smiles, one of the oldest p'omer We;leyan missionaries in the North. He came out from Bristol in the missionary brig Victoria, in 1839. with a la-ge pariy of mi sionaries for New Zealand and the South Sea Islands. The party included the Revs. Euddl», Buttle, Aldrei, H»A. Turton, and Skervington, Mr Smiles being tbe last survivor cf the party. In 1856 h« retired from mission work to his farm at Ea^t Tamaki, where he died.
