PARLIAMENTARY JOTTINGS.

[Bx Telegbaph.— Fbobi oub own Coeres PONDENT.] Wellington, October 4. This afternoon was added to the already large amount of wasted time during the session. Some time ago a resolution was passed authorising the continuance of Bellamy's for the present session, stock having been purchased and arrangements made for the purpose, but its existence beyond the present session was to be subject to the decision of the House. It now appears that the Joint House Committee, at a recent metti.ng, resolved, oc the motion of the Premier,

to order from England next year's supplies for Bellamy's, but considered: it unnecessary to inform either House of the resolution arrived at. Mr George Hutchison, Chairman of the Hou.e Committea of the House of Representatives, convened his Committee for this mcrning, at whioh a resolution was passed to report the matter this afternoon,' which was done, and thig resulted in a long acrimonious and unprofitable discussion. The report was ultima'ely referred back to the Committee for further consideration, with an instruction to report within a week, and no orders for supplies to be given in the meantime. The Land Improvement and Native Land Acquisition Bill and Eating Bill were reported from the Council to«-night with slight amendments, which were accepted by the House, and the Bills passed. The Council insisted upon i(s amendment to the Shops and {Shop Assistants Bill, and Messrs Ward, Bell, Tanner, and Beeves were appointed to meet representatives from the Council in conference on the question. The Hon Mr Stevens moved that the Government Advances to Settlers Bill be read by the Council this day six months, and after several speeches, ohiefly against the measure, the debate was adjourned till to-morrow. It is very doubtful if the Bill will pass, unless the Government agree to climb down in the same way as they did on the Consols Bill. The Midland Eailway Bill has got down to No. 20 on the Order Paper to-day.
