RE WAKES FOR BRAVERY.
Auckland, March 10. Two certificates awarded by the United Fire Brigades' Association to two members of the Auckland Fire Brigade, George and Edward Moore, were presented last night by the Mayor, in recognition of an act of courage and priesence of mind.by which they saved each other's life at a recent practice of the Brigade; The circumstances were as follows : —Fireman George Moore was on the upper ladder, at the third story of a building, and his brother Edward had just stepped on the, lower ladder, when he heard an ominous crack, which conveyed instantly to his mind the idea that the crook of the upper ladder had broken. Leaning to his right, he placed his shpalder under ,one of the rungs of the tipper ladder, and ga.ve his brother an opportunity of springing into the third story window, thereby escaping the terrible death that must have resulted from falling a distance of 50 feet, v
