The LYTTBtTOK, from Blenheim, arrived early on Friday moroing, having left the previous day. "She brought a quantity of wheat as freight tiii trip! On Saturday afternoon she sailed for Wanganui, reaching that port tho following day, and was to leave again for Blenheim yesterday. , , Thb Kknnkdt, from We«t Coast Portf, arrived oa Friday last, brining with her this trip a large cargo of Grey coal.
TELBauAMa from Grey mouth and Hokitika raport bad bars at both ports, and in consequence the Murray has met with, coutiidarable detention at the former plaoe. She was to leave yesterday for Westport, and, if permitted, to do so, would be due here to-morrow, The Wallace has also met with some detention at Hokitika, but was to leave therp for Greymouth yesterday. Iks Otago Daily Times of July 18th, states ;-? j "The hull of the old hulk William Hyde has, by the ' enterprise of the Messrs Jackson Bros., shipwrights, been converted into a floating dook, and is now in working order for •mall orafts. Tbe dook is ninety feet long, and can itake vessels in drawing six feet. The owners intend bringing it to Dunedin, where no doubt it will be well patronised by our coastal community.; There are at present two lighten undergoing repairs in it."
The Ballarat Courier is informed that Messrs. M'Meckaa, filaokwood, and Co. have serious notions of ordering the construction of a large fleet of steamships in;addition to those they have now employed running between. Victoria and New Zealand, owing to the increase which has lately taken place in the demand for freight between toew two Colonies.
