COLLISION OF THE WILLIAMS AND PATERSON STEAMERS.
Sydney Morning Iterald Office, , ' Saturday 11 a.m. The Clarence, steamer, arrived from Newcastle this morning at five o'clock, bringing intelligence of the collision o£thc Paterson and .William steamer* .We Have the following particulars. Shortly after the Williams leaving Raymond Terrace, at the junction of the river, she met the Paterson coining down bound for Sydney. From some cause at present unexplained they ran into one another at full speed. The Williams had her bows stove in, and sank immediately in 20 feet of water. The Paterson has lost her port paddle box and wheel, destroyed themain shaft, together with serious damage to the machinery. Two of the Paterson's firemen have been vc-ry much scalded about the body and face. The second,engineer of the Paterson, who was asleep in his berth, has also received some injuries. * , The Ballaarat tug and two vessels have been forwarded, together with ample crews, to endeavor to raise the sunken steamer, and it is .anticipated that she will be afloat again this afternoon.
