IDEAS WANTED

REQUEST FROM ASSOCIATED CHAMBERS LOCAL BRANCH’S REPLY A letter from the Associated Chambers of Commerce asking for suggestions and practical ideas as to how best to increase membership and attendances .at Chamber of Commerce meetings was before this week’s meeting of the Te Awamutu Chamber. The president, Mr S. H. Wanklyn, said they had tried to increase membership locally. Mr R. F. Armstrong said the Chamber would be receiving an invitation to hear an address that Mr H. E. Schofield (Matamata) Dominion Preident of Associated Chambers of Commerce would be giving to the Te Awamutu Rotary Club. Mr T. Coupland suggested a set-up similar to the Kindred Clubs Association which consisted of members of Orphans Clubs and Savage Club, the aim being to foster and help such clubs in their districts. The chairman said the only objection to such was that the Rules of the Chambers of Commerce provide that only business people could be members. Mr J. H. Ansell said the question seemed to be how to get members to take more interest and to attend the meetings in greater numbers and regularly. Mr A. G. Warburton took it that the Associated Chamber was trying to get a pool of ideas, and at the moment he could not think of anything likely they could do. “A Chamber of Commerce was only as good or bad as members made it,” said Mr Warburton. It was decided to acknowledge the letter and to inform the writer that the Chamber would be pleased to receive information as to the ideas gathered and at the same time to state they had no ideas to offer.
