WAR MEMORIAL

COMMITTEE MEETING IMPLEMENTING SUGGESTIONS The Te Awamutu War Memorial Committee met last Wednesday night to discuss ways and means of implementing suggestions put forward at a public meeting recently. Mr. S. H.. Wanklyn presided in the absence of Mr. G. Spinley, Mayor. Mr. D. Williams, president of the Rotary Club, Mr. M. H. Williams, chairman of the Beautifying Society, Mr. McVerry, representative of the Airforce Club, Mr. Ros.sitter, of the Legion of Frontiersmen, and Mesdames Macken and Menary, of the Women’s Institute, attended the meeting to supplement the War Memorial Committee. Messrs. R. H. Wynyard, W. S. Germann, G. S. Hall, A. G. Warburton, and B. Malone, represented the War Memorial Committee. It was decided to form a technical sub-committee to draw plans and make estimates as well as model the project and place it where the public could view it and obtain a definite idea of what it constituted, and what they were asked to contribute towards. Messrs. G. A. Gibbs, J. N. Anderson, M. H. Williams, and K. B. Harrod, were elected to the committee. It was also decided to approach sports bodies and ask them to co-oper-ate with the committee by helping to raise funds. On advice that the Hamilton War Memorial Committee had received a sum of £5OO from the Auckland Harbour Board as a donation, it was decided to write and ask the Board for a donation towards the Te Awamutu project. It was stressed that the outcome of the appeal should be known before the end of this year and that it should not be allowed to drag on indefinitely.
