TOKOROA HOTEL

APPEAL AGAINST DECISION ACTION BY MATAMATA COUNTY COUNCIL The Matamata County Council decided yesterday to appeal against the decision of the Waikato Licensing Committee, declining the council’s application for a license to conduct a trust hotel at Tokoroa. It was also decided that a committee consisting of the chairman, Mr E. t D. White, the Tokoroa Riding mem-’ ber, Mr G. C. Dunham, and the county clerk, Mr J. A. Beck, should confer with representatives from other districts where applications are being made for local trusts. A combined deputation will then wait on the Prime Minister, Mr Holland, with a view to obtaining adequate legislative authority for the establishment of trust hotels. A further resolution was passed that the member of Parliament for Waikato, Mr G. F. Sim, be informed of developments relating to the Tokoroa trust. Mr Beck said a telegram had been sent to the Minister of Justice, Mr Webb, pointing out the need for new regulations controlling the formation of local licensing trusts. The Minister had replied that he did not see how the issue of new regulations would be of assistance. Mr Beck added that unless the regulations were altered, he did not see how a trust hotel could be established in the Dominion.
