CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL

PUBLIC MEETING TO BE HELD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ACTION Mr J. Fletcher, at this week’s meeting of Te Awamutu Chamber of Commerce, suggested calling a public meeting to discuss the proposed Christmas celebrations this year. After reading a letter from Mir W. P- Tombs, who reported on last year’s activities, Mr Fletcher favoured no time being lost. They should get the money immediately, so as to buy the necessary novelties before Christmas. They experienced some difficulty last year because their purchases were left too close to Christmas; conse? quently they were hard to get. Mr J. H. Ansell moved that the sub-committee be authorised to call a public meeting. On the motion being seconded by Mr W\ Hanna it was carried. Later in the meeting the question of a retailers’ sub-committee was raised and Mr A. G. Warburton moved that it be left to the proposed special meeting. Mr Fletcher said that that proposed meeting would include others than members of the Chamber. Mr Warburton said a sub-commit-tee would deal with the questions of holidays, Christmas celebrations, and other matters of moment to the business people. It was decided that the sub-commit-tee should consist of Messrs L. G. Armstrong (convener), K. Edridge, J. H. Fletcher, C- A. Reilly, and A. C. Boyt.
