CALF CLJJB With ideal weather conditions prevailing, the Calf Club held their annual Field Day in the School grounds, on Tuesday the J lsth inst-Forty-eight calves and eight yearlings paraded before the judges, and the uniformity and high standard of the animals exhibited speaks well for animal husbandry exercised by the children concerned. The judges in the calf and yearling sections were Messrs Pattison, S. Wyllie, and A. Johnson. Mr G. W. Johnson (president Te Awamutu Calf Group) judged the lambs and pets. The pets section created considerable interest among adults and children alike. This is the local club’s first venture to show a pedigree section, and although only three entries came forward, the beautiful cup presented by Mr Gower will no doubt prove an incentive to competition next year. This trophy was won by Alistair Bennett. Mr D. Christie donated a magnificent Challenge Cup for dairy type in the grade section of light breeds, and this was won by Joan Hollay. This cup is to be suitably inscribed at a later date. The Federated Farmers’ Cup for child effort (senior) was won by Doris Woolston. The Hudson Cup, child effort (junior) was won by Alistair Bennett. The Parent Teacher Association conducted a stall and ice creams and cordials sold readily throughout the day. Towards the close of proceedings the chairman of the School Committee (Mr G. Gower) in a happy speech thanked the judges, those who had transported calves, and all who had helped to make the day such a cessThe president of the Boys’ - and Girls’ Club (Les Fleming) also spoke
