TOWN PLANNING
I VISIT OF OFFICERS DISCUSSION WITH BOROUGH COUNCIL Last week, Mr Cox, officer in charge of the Town Planning Section of the Ministry of Works, accompanied by Mr Porter of his section, who has been assigned to the work for Te Awamutu, met members of the borough council. The Mayor welcomed the visitors and was glad that an opportunity was afforded the council to have cleared any matters the council was in doubt about and to discuss the proposed plan to the stage reached by the council. The Standing Orders were suspended and round table discussion ensued. In the course of discussion, Mr Cox made ciear to the council the position of his section and the working of the Town Planning Board. Many questions were put to Mr Cox and answered. Mr Cox explained that in the light of the further information that the saleyards would not be shifted in the immediate future he agreed with the council’s alternative site at the back of the Town Hall. In actual fact, his section had drawn plans practically identical to that approved by the council. There were wider repercussions and the whole area of the present site of the saleyards, required to be re-zoned. It was proposed to proceed accordingly, and submit a further plan incorporating this and the council’s amendments to the previous proposed plan. His Worship expressed the gratitude of the council to Mr Cox and Mr Porter, for their attendance on the council, and the helpful information given.
