SAND DUNE PROBLEM

INVESTIGATIONS PROCEEDING Mr W. J. Broadfoot, M.P. for the district has for some time been making representations on questions arising in sand-drift problems at Kawhia, and recently at the request of the Kawhia Chamber of Commerce he renewed the representations. He has now been advised by the Minister of Maori Affairs (Hon. E. T. Tirikatene) that the question of sand dune reclamation generally throughout the country is being investigated at the present time by the Ministry of Works and reports are at present in course of preparation. When reports are to hand it is intended to convene a conference of Departmental officers to make recommendations as to how the problems should be. tackled from a National point of view. Claim for Rates In the Magistrate’s Court at Kawhia on Tuesday last Mt W. H. Freeman, S.M., gave judgment for plaintiff by default in the case in which Kawhia County Council sued L. Ellis, of Hauturu, for £l9 19s lid, rates due. Costs were allowed.
