TE AWAMUTU STOCK SALE The F.A.C. report on their Te Awamutu stock sale held yesterday, when a very light entry of sheep came forward. Competition was keen and values remained on a par with recent sales. A full yarding of both beef and boner cattle was penned. Competition for ox beef was not as keen as at recent late sales—values tending to ease. Boner and paddock cows were in heavy demand—iprices realised being in advance of those ruling at central saleyards. The advertised entry of store cattle came forward in excellent condition and elicited very keen bidding from a good bench of buyers.

Sheep: Heavy fat wether hoggets £2 to £2 3s 6d, light Blackface hoggets 35s 3d to 35s 9d, fat ewes 26s 6d to 275.

Cattle: Heavy prime fat bullocks £23 10s to £24 ss, lighter fat bullocks £2l to £22 ss, light and unfinished bullocks £l9 15s to £2O 10s, heavy prime fat P.A. and Shorthorn heifers £l7 5s to £l7 12s 6d, lighter fat P.A. and Friesian heifers £l4 7s 6d to £l6 ss, heavy fat Shorthorn cows £l3 to £l3 17s 6d, fat Jersey heifers £ll 15s to £l2 ss, heavy fat Jersey cows £9 12s to £ll ss, lighter ditto £8 to £9, heavy boner cows £6 to £7 10s, lighter ditto £5 to £5 15s, potter bulls £8 5s to £9 7s 6d, lighter potter bulls £5 15s to £7.105, 3 and 4 year P.A. bullocks £l6 4s to £l6 19s, smaller ditto £l5 10s to £l6, 2-year P.A. steers £l2 15s to £l2 17s 6d.

A large yarding of all classes of pigs was penned, when prices for. both fat pigs and stores showed an advance on central rates. Pigs: Heavy choppers £6 to £7 10s, other ditto £3 to £4 10s, prime heavy baconers £6 15s to £6 17s, heavy bacbners £6 Ils to £6 13s, medium baconers £6 5s to £6 Bs, light baconers £5 16s to £6 3s, heavy porkers £5 6s to £5 11s, medium porkers £4 18s to £5 2s, light porkers £4 9s to £4 15s, large stores £3 16s to £4 4s, slips £2 16s to £3 3s, weaners 37s to £2 Bs.

Sheep were penned in average numbers at Messrs Dalgety and Co.’s, Te Awamutu stock sale on Thursday, 2nd December, 1948. Competition throughout was steady with late rate values being maintained. Included in a heavy entry of all classes of cattle was a good offering of prime fat ox and female beef for which a steady sale resulted at prices which were firm on late quotations at the central ’yards. Boner cows and potter bulls sold freely at full rates )vhile a good enquiry was evident for the advertised ylg P.A. cattle and Jersey ylg heifers, rwb in this section competition was keen and a satisfactory sale resulted. In the pig section a full yarding of both fat and store pigs came forward—competition throughout was keen and values for both baconers and stores were inclined to harden at central ’yards prices.

Sheep: Shorn fat wethers 44s 6d to 46s 6d, fat wolly hoggets 46s to 495, medium weight shorn hoggets 38s 6d to 40s, fat Blackface hoggets 34s 9d to 375, fat shorn ewes 25s 6d td 27s 6d.
