WELFARE COMMITTEE
IMM EDIATE ESTABLISHMENT DESIRED ADMINISTRATION OF PATRIOTIC FUNDS The Executive Committee of Te Awamutu Returned Services Association resolved, at its meeting on Wednesday night, to make a direct approach to the Mayor (Mr G. Spinley) with a view to the immediate establishment of a.Welfare Committee in Te Awamutu, for the administration of Patriotic and Canteen Funds. ’The president, Mr F. CaslingCottle, and the secretary, Mr G. E. Clark, were deputed to approach the Mayor on behalf of the R.S.A. The Executive was advised in a circular letter that the Welfare Committee when established could make grants up to £5O to deserving cases; anything in excess of this being referred to “Zone” committees or higher. Personnel of Welfare Committees includes the Mayor of the town concerned, representatives of the R.S.A., and in larger centres, the Home Servicemen’s Association, and Air Force and Naval Association representatives.
“Is there a patriotic fund in Te Awamutu?” asked the chairman, Mr K. Tippett. “It has not gone into the national fund in Wellington?” Numbers considered that such was the case; the funds from Te Awamutu and other centres had gone into a National Pool account. Allocations would be made to Welfare Committees as they were set up. Dr J. B. W. Robertson asked : “Whose responsibility is it to form the Welfare Committee?” It was affirmed by members that as the committee functioned for both town and country, it was the responsibility of iihe Mayor to start it. Mr G. Warburton then moved the resolution recorded above.
