Twin Foals The birth of twin foals to Beryl Vaals, on Mr Jack Sklenars’ farm at Te Kawa, is reported. The happy event in the equine world occurred yesterday. Both the mother and her offspring are reported as being in good condition and doing well. Twin foals are somewhat of a rarity. Candidate Withdraws The latest development in regard to the Te Awamutu Borough Council elections to be held this month is the withdrawal of Mr V. A. De Coek from the contest. Mr De Coek is a candidate for the Mayoralty, and he will now confine himself to that aspect of the elections. There are now fifteen candidates for the eight Council seats. Motor Vehicle Registrations The number of motor vehicles licensed on September 30 was up 21,238, or 7.05 per cent on the previous year’s figures, said the Post-master-General, Mr Hackett. The total registrations of all vehicles were 322,276. Cars showed an increase over 1946 of 10,203, or 5.31 per cent, the number now licensed being 202,341. Commercial vehicles licensed totalled 105,424, an increase of 10,206, or 10.72 per cent. Motorcycles totalled 14,511, an increase of 829, or 6.06 per cent. Of the total licenses the North Island had 213,472 and the South Island 108,804.
