PRE-WEDDING PARTY

PATERANGI DISTRICT By the marriage on Saturday last of Miss Kitty Macky, Paterangi has lost a resident who has lived all her life in the district, and one who has taken a most active part in all affairs connected with the district throughout her lifetime. The Paterangi Hall was a gay scene last Tuesday night when residents gathered to extend their very best wishes for future happiness and good luck io both Miss Macky and her fiance, Mr Martin Clarke, of Kawhia. Dancing was interspersed with musical items, and a thoroughly enjoyable time was spent by all. The musical programme commenced with solos by Mrs Lynch, “I’ll Walk Beside You,” and “Cornin’ thru’ the Rye.” A duet followed by Mrs Mitchell and Miss Ballinger, “Whispering Hope” and “Let the Rest of the World go by.” Mr Baxter sang “Mary of Argyle” and “O Promise Me,” and later “Road to the Isle” and “I Pass by Your Window.” An elocutionary item followed by Miss Clarke, “The Making of Friends” and “Mrs Rawlins Can’t Stop” and later “The Soliloquy of the Fire.” Mr Ken Lewis sang “Lass with the Delicate Air” and “She Shall Have Music,” and this was followed by a one act play, “A Quiet Day’s Sketching in Sussex,” by Mesdames Brownlee and Clarke. Pianoforte solos by Mr Garth Cullen followed, and this versatile entertainer gave two elocutionary items, “Hitched” and “T]?e Bush Christening.” The accompanists were Mrs K. Macky, Miss Ballinger, Mrs Cullen and Mr G. Cullen.

After suppertime the guests of honour were called upon to come forward, and after Miss Macky had been presented with a pretty posy by little Patricia Bird, Mr George Finch made a presentation on behalf of the Tennis Club. Mrs E. Rybum then spoke on behalf of the Hockey Association, and Master Roy Dench on behalf of the Junior Red Cross, each making a presentation. Mr S. Rhodes asked Miss Macky to accept a very large array of useful and beautiful gifts from the ’Paterangi residents. He extended best wishes to the young couple on behalf of all present. Mr Martin Clarke replied on behalf of himself and his fiancee, thanking everyone for their kindly and beautiful gifts. Dancing continued throughout the evening and festivities concluded with all joining hands round the guests of honour and singing Auld Lang Syne.
