KIHIKIHI NEWS

COMING OF AGE PARTY On Saturday evening last the Kihikihi Town Hall was a scene of animation, the occasion being a party given by Mr and Mrs John Brown to celebrate the coming of age of their daughter Juanita. The hall had been artistically decorated with coloured streamers and greenery which produced an effect pleasing to the eye. The large assembly of guests from all parts of the district, and also from Taranaki, made evident the high esteem in which the guest of honour is held. - Mr and Mrs Brown and Miss Juan received the guests. Mrs Brown wore a frock of black silk lace and Miss Juan Was prettily attired in a frock of white net over shell pink satin. The order of the evening wab dancing with items interspersed and among the gay throng of dancers could be distinguished the uniforms of the various services. Items were contributed to a very appreciative audience by Miss Margaret O’Brien, Mrs G. Ramsay, and Messrs B. Malone and C. B. Linehan, the accompanist in each case being Mrs C. B. Linehan. The duties of M.C. were in the capable hands of Mr J. M. Linehan, and the dancing went with a swing to the excellent music provided by Mrs O’Leary and extras played by Mrs Colin O’Brien.

In the supper room also the scheme of decorations had been carried out. The appetising supper was served buffet style, thus enabling all the guests to be present for the .toasts. After the loyal toast, Mr Brian Malone, in a happy speech, referred in eulogistic terms to the many excellent qualities of Miss Juan, and when her father had presented her with the customary key her health was heartily pledged. Miss Juan responded in a neat little speech. Mr A. S. Wyllie then proposed the health of Mr and Mrs Brown and spoke of their sterling qualities as neighbours. Mr Brown suitably replied. Mr Cyril Linehan proposed the toast to absent friends, with particular reference to Mr and Mrs Brown’s eldest daughter Noeline, of the W.A.A.F., who, owing to duties, was unable to be present. The guest of honour then cut the beautifully decorated birthday cake which had been made by her mother. She was also the recipient of a large array of beautiful presents including many cheques. After supper dancing was continued until midnight when Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem brought to a close an evening which will live long in the memory of those privileged to be present.
