WORK OF PAST TWO MONTHS FOREMAN’S REPORT TO BOARD The final meeting of the Te Awamutu Electric Power Board as at present constituted was held on Friday. Present: Messrs J. T. Johnson (chairman), R. F. Armstrong, V. A. De Coek, L. Kay, E. H. Rhodes, S. C. B. Macky, J. G. Sutherland, and Colonel J. Matson. An apology was received and sustained from Mr R. J. Graham. Mr D. T. B. McArthur, secretarymanager, was also present. The electrical foreman (Mr E. ant) submitted the following reporF to a meeting of Te Awamutu Electric Power Board held on Friday. The report was adopted, and reads:— Ten poles erected, four being used on construction work and others on maintenance. The workmen were employed for the greater portion of the period in trimming hedges and trees which were a hazard to the lines. A motor vehicle collided with a power pole in Mahoe Street on 25th March, and damaged high and low-tension lines. Minor repairs were made to lines in different parts of the area, and 12 chains of small section wire were replaced with 7/16 and 6 chains of L.T. phase wire were erected at Ohaupo Road. The earth leakage relay batteries received attention at Kaipaki, Paterangi, Te Mawhai, and Te Kawa substations. The peak load for January-March quarter was 2368 v...a., 2232 k.w. at .942 p.f. This load was recorded on 15th March last, between 5.30 p.m. and 6 p.m. The peak load to date for the present quarter is 2489 k.v.a., 2430 k.w. at .976 p.f Three faulty transformers were replaced and are being repaired; one 9 k.v.a. transformer was replaced with a 15 k.v.a. one owing to load increase; 90 gallons of oil were dehydrated, and loading tests of transformers were made during the period. One static condenser was repaired and re-erected and another faulty one was scrapped. Thirteen street lamps in the borough and three at Ohaupo were replaced; time switch clocks were adjusted at Kihikihi, Ohaupo, and Pirongia, and the main switch for borough street lights was replaced. Ten service lines were erected and a number repaired or altered; 17 services were dis-con-nected and 18 re-connected, and usual fault work was carried out. The temporary lighting installations for the Home Guard at Pokuru, Te Kawa Cross-roads, Hairini, Paterangi, Pirongia, Ohaupo, and Kaipaki were dismantled. The vehicles travelled 8821 miles during the period. Chief Inspector’s Report Mr A. J. Tailby (chief electrical inspector) submitted the following report, which was adopted:— Since last meeting of the Board the following installations and extensions have been tested and inspected: Four lighting plants, 1 separator motor, 1 other power plant, 3 waterpump motors, 7 stoves and stovettes, and 3 water-heaters, a total of 19. With the above new connections, and after allowing for disconnections, temporary or otherwise, the figuras at this date are as follow (the May, 1943, figures, being shown in parentheses): Lighting plants 2738 (2720), cow-plant motors 898 (902), separator motors 551 (536), other power plants 101 (105), water-pump motors 869 (856), washing machines 432 (432), shearing plants 138 (126), stoves 1071 (1029), water-heaters 1584 (1575); grand totals (8382 (8281). I also tested and inspected extensions on 6 lighting plants and 1 other plant, total extensions to date being 4720; tested and inspected alterations on 2 cow-plants, 10 water-heaters, 2 stoves, 8 lighting plants, 16 water-pumps, and 5 separator motors; installed 20 meters, tested 34, changed 10, disconnected 1, re-connected 1, removed 3, and repaired 31; attended to 60 ininquiries. The total number of refrigerators inspected to date is 291 and the total number of radio sets 1656. Special tests were taken on 7 installations, 3 special meter readings were made, and 4 time-clocks were adjusted. Financial Statement The financial statement was submitted by Mr J. G. Sutherland, and was adopted. It reads as follows: Power fund account (cr.) £16,050 15s, loan account (dr.) £11,113 10s lid, consumers’ finance account (cr.) £1722 12s 4d; total credit in all accounts, £6659 16s sd. Investments: War loan £5OOO, bomber bonds £3037 2s 6d. Liberty loan £5500, Liberty loan No. 3 £4000; total, £17,537 2s 6d. Accounts passed, £9983 4s 6d. Revenue earned from sales of current for February and March last: Lighting, heating, and cooking, February, £2735 6s 4d, March £2532 9s 8d; power, £1530 17s Id and £1670 8s 3d; penalties and sundries, £35 9s 3d and £24 5s 2d; street lighting. £2O and £l9 15s Id; totals, February £4321 12s Bd, March £4246 18s 2d. The figures for February and March, 1943, were £4413 4s 3d and £4309 0s 2d.
