WEDDING BELLS

NEWELL—VERITY A quiet and pretty wedding was solemnised at S.t John’s Church, Hairini, on 18th April, when Miss Mary (Mollie) Verity, eldest daughter of Mr S. N. Verity, Hairini, and the late Mrs S. S. Verity, of Levin, was married to Second-Lieutenant Norman Johnston Newell (on furlough), second son of Mrs E. M. Newell and the late Mr A. J. Newell, Levin. The Rev. W. C. Wood officiated, and Mrs M. G. Sullivan presided at the organ. While the register was being signed Mrs Sullivan sang a solo. The church was nicely decorated by friends of the bride.

Given away by her father, the bride looked charming in an afternoon frock of kingfisher blue self-embroidered spun crepe. Her hat was a smart cinnamon shade, and she carried a horse-shoe of autumn-tinted chrysanthemums and French marigolds. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Nancy Verity, wearing a matching frock of nasturtium tan and black accessories. The best man was StaffSergeant Murray Fletcher (also on furlough). Following the ceremony a few friends gathered at the bride’s home at Hairini prior to the departure of the newly-married couple on a honeymoon to be spent touring the North Island.
