FARMING MATTERS

HOSPITAL DE-RATING RESOLUTIONS CARRIED AT MAUNGATAUTARI Mr J. Watson, of Maungatautari, presided over a very large attendance of ratepayers of Horahora-Maunga-tautari district who met recently to discuss hospital and general rating as affected by the new Polls and Amendment Act. Very keen interest was shown throughout the evening’s discussion, the various points being well investigated and clearly explained. Finally the following resolutions were passed:— “ That this meeting of HorahoraMaungatautari ratepayers request that the hospital rate be abolished, as it is considered unjust, and should be removed at the end of the war.” “ That the whole incidence of rating be overhauled owing to the passing of the Local Amendment Act.” “ That, owing to the extension of the Local Elections and Polls Act, steps be taken to enable all voters to become ratepayers.” “ That all legislation of a class order be opposed.” Unanimous approval was given to the suggestion that Horahora and Maungatautari farmers join the Dairy Producers’ Association; the chairman to get in touch with the executive of that organisation and endeavour to have a member of the Association address local farmers on the topics under discussion.
