REHABILITATION

PROPOSED COMMITTEE ACTION BY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE At the previous meeting of the Te Awamutu Chamber of Commerce Mr A. G. Warburton asked that members should inform him of goods passing over their counters that could be made in Te Awamutu, thus assisting in the rehabilitation of returned men. At Wednesday night’s meeting Mr A. G. Warburton said he had not been burdened with a great number of suggestions. He asked them to consider setting up a committee of three whose job it would be to furnish schemes for the general expansion of businesses in Te Awamutu. There was a big job to be done despite the poor response. He saw things made in Hamilton coming into Te Awamutu. There were dozens of girls mobilised with the forces and if they were going to hold them in Te Awamutu they should create the opportunity for them to remain here. He would like volunteers for the positions on the suggested committee. The chairman, Mr H. C. Date, said he hoped members would consider Mr Warburton’s suggestion which was a good one. It is proposed that the committee will be set up at the next meeting of the Chamber of Commerce.
