A PARAWERA AIRMAN

L.A.C. WALLIS WELLINGTON HONOURED On the evening of 2nd May the Parawera Hall was filled to capacity when residents of that district met to do honour to Leading Aircraftman Wallis Wellington. A suitable address was given by Mr Roger Kay, who congratulated Wallis on his choice and spoke of the great work performed by the Royal New Zealand Air Force and the qualities of the men who served with it.

Mr Kay then made a presentation to the young airman on behalf of all present, and wished him all the best of good fortune and a safe return He also spoke of the high esteem in which Wlallis’ parents were held in the district. Loraine Parish presented Mrs Wellington with a pretty shoulder spray, and Wallis replied, thanking all for the gift to him and the kindly references to his parents. Dancing then re-commenced, and a pleasant time was spent by the young folk, music being supplied by Messrs Rust and Williamson.

Extras were played by Mrs Wallace, &nd Mr Mellsop was an efficient master of ceremonies. A Monte Carlo competition was won by Miss K. FitzPatrick and partner. Enjoyable games of cards were played, prizes being won by Mrs J. Russell and Mr W. Berry. A dainty supper was supplied by the ladies, and the evening was terminated by of “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem.
