SERVICES APPRECIATED

WORK OF MR BROADFOOT TRIBUTE BY WAITOMO COUNTY COUNCIL “I think that during the long run of years that Mr Broadfoot has represented the constituency of Waitomo, many vital amenities have been obtained for the people of this district. Very large sums of money have been spent on various assets, and I think we are entitled to express our appreciation of Mr Broadfoot’s services at this, the last meeting of the present Council, and of the work that he has accomplished within his constituency, both for the Council and for the other bodies represented here this afternoon,” said Mr W. A. Lee, chairman of the Waitomo County Council, at a social function held at the conclusion of the last meeting of the Waitomo County Council.

In thanking Mr Lee for his remarks Mr W. J. Broadfoot, M.P., said he realised the necessity of tackling the problem of the special rating areas which were a curse to this country, and there had not been a special rating area created since he went into the House—that was his method of attacking the de-rating problem.

Continuing, Mr Broadfoot said he thought that the Northern King Country was one o£ the most bountiful reservoirs for future citizens. The South Island people were \ amazed when he told them that this Island could run three to four sheep per acre. The North Island had a bountiful rainfall and an equitable climate, and when you combined them with fertiliser there was another Hawke’s Bay—or rather, a wet Hawke’s Bay with no droughts.
