IN NEW YORK

QTOROHANGA AIRMEN WITH THE MILLIONAIRES Mr and Mrs C. Hotson, of Otorohanga, have received a letter from their son, Pilot-Officer Bryan Hotson, saying that he is now in England, and sending greetings to all old friends at home/ On his final leave in New York he was one of a party of guests of Mr Michael Lerner, a millionaire big-game hunter.

He writes: “Never have I seen such an apartment—heads of various animals, tables with elephants’ feet as legs, ash-trays with legs of goats, and albums of New Zealand and Maori life, the like of which I did not imagine could exist, even the Otorohanga sports being a feature. They showed us a movie of their experiences in New Zealand, and played Maori .songs on the radio-gramophone; and when we left we were each given five dollars and 200 cigarettes.” Pilot-Officer Hotson continues: “ We were also guests of Mr G. Lane, who was American Consul in New Zealand for a number of years. They gave us

tea and took us to a musical comedy, after which we returned to his home and had the usual supper and cocktails, finally arriving home about five a-m., after one of the boys was calling Mr Lane ‘ George.’ They were so pleased with the first New Zealand boys that Mr Lane telephoned Miss Nola Luxford, Free Lance correspondent, and told her that he could always be counted on her list of hosts for boys from the Dominion.”
