Not only do members of the New Zealand armed forces excel as fighters but also as vegetable growers (says the Wellington Evening Post). This was proved when a reporter was shown 'two radishes grown on a vegetable patch attached to a coastal camp. Grown on land that has not been treated in any special way, these two radishes together weighed just under 2 lb. Each was more than a foot long, and had a circumference in the thickest part of ten inches. It was stated that they were not exceptional, and that there were plenty more like them.
