SOCIAL AND PERSONAL

Mrs A. A. Reese, of Hamilton, was a visitor to Te Awamutu yesterday.

Mr C. M. Musker, of Putaruru, has received advice that his sdn, SergeantGunner Kenneth McKenzie Musker, serving with the Royal New Zealand Air Force overseas, has been injured, but not seriously so, during air operations.

The engagement is announced between Huntly Irwin (Bunny) Chapman, Royal New Zealand Air Force, second son of Mr and the late Mrs J. J. Chapman, Mount Roskill, and Ita Margaret, youngest daughter of Mi and the late Mrs J. A. Casey, Waikeria.

Mr T. L. Gorrie, of Otorohanga, who met with an accident recently, is progressing favourably. On returning home he was putting a cover over his car when the vehicle began to move down hill, and ran over him, breaking his collar-bone and bruising him severely.

Her many friends gathered at the Ngutunui Hall last Tuesday evening to wish Miss Verna Jackson every happiness in her approaching marriage. During the evening Mr J. R. McGruther asked the guest of the evening to accept a canteen of cutlery from her many friends. All were glad, he said, that she was not going too far away. Mr McGruther also said that Miss Jackson was a great help in every way in Ngutunui, and on behalf of all her friends wished her and her future husband every happiness. Miss Jackson suitably replied. Mrs Jack Robinson played the dance music and in the early hours the evening was brought to a close with the singing of “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellof.”

Cabled advice that her youngest son, Dean J. Eyre, has been promoted to the rank of sub-lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve in Canada, has been received by Mrs M. Eyre, of Ngaruawahia. His father, the late Mr Richard Eyre, was the late Mayor of Ngaruawahia. Sub-Lieutenant Eyre was educated at the Hamilton High School and Auckland University College, and later went to Honolulu to live, being there at the time of the Pearl Harbour raid. He is a keen yachtsman, and was a member of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Aged 35 years, Sub-Lieutenant Eyre was married in New Zealand, and his wife is now living in San Francisco. A brother, Major J. Eyre, is serving overseas.
