Mrs W. N. Smythe, of Auckland, is at present the guest of her sister, Mrs.H, C. Rainey, Young Street.

Miss M. Courtney, of Auckland, is staying with Mr and Mrs T. W. Gee, of Teasdale Street.

Miss Beryl Gee, of Teasdale Street, who has been spending a holiday in Auckland, has returned home.

Mr and Mrs A. Cameron, of Devonport, are spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs J. Ryan, of Kihikihi Road.

Mr Shepherd Smith has received advice that his nephew, Pilot Officer Edward Patrick Smith, son of Mr HW. Smith, of Auckland, has been killed in action during air operations overseas.

Mr S. Martin Smith, of College Street, who has been confined to his bed for some months by an attack of double pneumonia, is now in the convalescent stage, and is making slow but sure progress toward complete recovery.

The Governor-General has appointed Mr J. T. Young to be a member of the Assessment Court for the Borough of Te Awamutu under the Urban Farm Land Rating Act. The other member of the Court is Mr J. G. Holmes, appointed by the local Borough Council.

At a meeting of the Te Awamutu Primary Schools’ Committee on Friday evening it was decided to write to Mrs L. Sinclair, who is under notice of transfer to Dargaville, where she becomes senior assistant mistress, thanking her for her services to the school and wishing her good luck in her new sphere.

Mr George Reilly, of the local staff of the Union Bank, son of Mr and Mrs Charles Reilly, of Park Road, is, his many friends will be pleased to learn, now able to be about for a few hours daily after a severe attack of rheumatic fever. Although still in the convalescent stage, his health shows gradual improvement.

The friends of Mr A. E. Mace, of Pakura Street, who recently broke his leg through falling from his bicycle in Alexandra Street, will regret to learn that he stumbled in his garden on Thursday, with the result that the limb was again fractured. He is at present an inmate of the Waikato Hospital.

At the annual conference of the Waikato Sub-Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, held at Hamilton on Friday, a resolution of appreciation of the services rendered to the Union by Mr G. T. Crawley, of Puahue, a past president of the Executive, was carried unanimously. Mr Crawley is at present in camp serving with the National Military Reserve.
