THE RED CROSS
THE record of the Te Awamutu Red Cross organisation, as disclosed in the reports submitted to the annual meeting last week, is one of faithful endeavour and proud achievement. It bears testimony to the growth in the district of the Society’s activities and compels public recognition of the beneficent and efficient service each member is individually performing for his
or her fellow creatures. What, perI haps, is most inspiring about the work is that it is all voluntary on ) the part of the helpers, who are actuated by no personal reward or recognition, but desire only to live up to the great and noble traditions with which the Red Cross is indelibly asso ciated. The report bears silent witness to the very large degree to which that goal has been attained- a tribute at once to the spontaneous enthusiasm and untiring energy of each and every member. Where all served so faithfully and well it would be invidious to individualise, but it is permissible to emphasise the debt of gratitude due to the President, Mrs C. G- Downes, in whose inspiring leadership and organising ability is seen the work of an ardent heart and a zealous endeavour.
