TRAINING WARDENS

SYSTEM IN AUCKLAND COMPREHENSIVE SCHEME A comprehensive scheme for the training of warden personnel of the Emergency Precautions Service in the Auckland metropolitan area is to be inaugurated immediately. Hitherto training has been carried out under local arrangements in the various districts and city blocks. The new system is intended to bring about more uniformity and at the same time to meet the needs of the large number of recruits who will shortly be posted to warden duty. Each district and city block has been directed to establish a headquarters training group of six officers, each of whom will be instructed and examined in one subject of a lecture course at central headquarters and will thereafter be responsible for instruction in that subject in his own area. The subjects in the lecture course are: (1) Patrols, reports and communications; (2) elementary first aid and hygiene; (3) fire fighting with light equipment; (4) anti-gas measures; (5) essential community services and protection from high explosives; (6) training of messengers. . The course will open to-morrow and will continue for six weeks.
