LOWER INSURANCE NEW RATES ANNOUNCED Reduced premiums for the insurance of motor vehicles laid up through, petrol restrictions have been announced by a group of insurance companies in Auckland. Certain other companies have also announced similar schemes. The new rates quoted by the group of companies are:—Private cars in brick garages, 5s per cent; in wood or corrugated iron garages, 7s 6d per cent; in public or hotel garages, 15s for brick, 30s for wood; trade or other cars, HOs for brick garages, 15s for wood; cars .in the open, 20s. It is stated that if such cover is taken under a current policy a pro rata return of premium may be allowed for the unexpired term, or if the owner cancels his policy he may also be allowed a pro rata return for the unexpired term. Provision is made for an insured person,using a laid-up vehicle, subject to a comprehensive premium on a short-period basis being charged for the period of use. The rates quoted will apply to comprehensive policies, so that claims for theft, flood and third-party risks Will be met, although war damage cover involves a special premium.
