THE AUTUMN FAIRS AN AUSPICIOUS OPENING Large yardings of store sheep continue to eome forward at all the main centres in the Waikato, and on the whole recent values are being maintained. At the present time breeding ewes comprise the largest proportion of the entries in this section, including many consignments from the East Coast and southern districts. Another large offering of local and outside ewes was penned at the Morrinsville centre on Friday, and the advanced rates obtained at the previous sale were again realised. The market for store lambs is not nearly as buoyant as for ewes. While good medium lambs usually sell steadily, the demand is not keen, and at one or two sales recently values have been inclined to ease. With ample feed available and the good price 'for fat lambs, it is difficult to understand why stores are not more readily sought. The annual Hamilton Ram Fair was held at Claudelands on Thursday and Friday of last week. On the first day a large offering of approximately 1200 Southdowns was penned. Competition for good flock rams was steady throughout at prices ranging from 7 to 10 guineas, with a top price of 15a guineas, while medium sorts sold from 5 to 6 guineas. A full penning of Romneys came forward on the second day and the demand in this section was better than anticipated. Good flock rams sold from 8 to 12 guineas and medium from 5 to 7 guineas, with poorer quality from 2 to 4 guineas. The first autumn cattle fair of the season was held at Oparau on Monday, when a good yarding of stationbred cattle chine forward. Competition for well-bred cat(le was keen, and recent quotations for this class were realised.
