DANGEROUS HABITS
CARELESS CYCLISTS That dangerous habit, bicycle riding on the footpaths, is again on the increase in Te Awamutu and, as of yore, the newspaper runners, shop messengers, and children seem the worst offenders. Sharp punishment is needed to teach these youthful offenders a good lesson. Since the institution of the blackout in the business area,-another dangerous practice has becoriie manifest. Little coteries of mere youths, slips of boys about 14 to 16 years of age, who would be kept at home at night if parents- exercised their due authority, have got into the habit of leaving their bicycles leaning up against business premises and even lying on the footpaths, thus creating a potential source of danger to life and limb. On Saturday evening in the darkness a citizen walked right into one of these machines and narrowly escaped a nasty spill, which may have been attended with serious consequences to one of his age. Citizens should co-operate with the Police in stopping both practices.
