CROQUET
THE TE AWAMUTU CLUB THE IMPASTO CUP Wednesday last witnessed keen play on the Te Awamutu croquet lawns, when the Te Kuiti Club visited the local Club to contest the Impasto Cup. Ten Te Kuiti ladies arrived at 11.30 o’clock and were entertained to lunch in the pavilion. Play commenced at 12 noon and continued until 4 p.m., results being as follows, Te Kuiti names being mentioned first:— Mesdames Haynes and McLeod lost to Mesdames McKerrow and Chunn 6—26. Mesdames Lynch and Swift lost to Mesdames Jourdain and Meredith 9 26. Mesdames Palmer and Powdrill lost to Mesdames Paul and McGovern 16 —26. Mesdames Wilding and Grinter lost to Mesdames Webber and Irwin 23 26. Mesdames Haynes and McLeod beat Mesdames Cole and Olsen 26—17. Mesdames Lynch and Swift beat Mesdames McArthur and Young 18—6 (unfinished). Mesdames Palmer and Powdrill lost to Mesdames Ryan and Nobes 18—20 (unfinished). The contest resulted in the Te Awamutu Club retaining the cup, Te Kuiti gaining 117 and Te Awamutu 147 points. Afternoon tea was then served, the visiting team thanking the local ladies for their hospitality and expressing the hope that a Te Awamutu team would pay them a visit in the near future.
