DISTRICT CALF CLUB

ANNUAL COMPETITION JUDGING AT PARAWERA AND PUKEATUA The judging in connection with the annual competition promoted by the Te Awamutu District Calf Club was continued on Wednesday, when the Parawera Native and Pukeatua Schools were visited. Messrs H. Tate Hodgson and H. C. Clarke judged calves, and Mr G. B. Melrose the pets. Again the entries, which numbered twelve at Parawera and six at Pukeatua, were of a good standard. Children showed great enthusiasm, while at both places a number of equally keen and interested parents attended. Short addresses were delivered by the judges complimenting owners and pointing out the comparative merits and defects of selected animals. Speaking at Parawera, Mr Melrose remarked that a most pleasing feature was the evidence of a marvellous improvement in the Maori children’s calves. Having been associated with the Club since its inception, he could not help commenting on the neverfailing year-by-year raising of the standard. The improvement he attributed to the Club, parents, and a very efficient secretary (Eileen Parish). At Parawera thanks were expressed to the judges by Mr G. Rust, and at Pukeatua by Miss I. Gunn. At each school Mr Melrose addressed pupils and parents on the collection of ergot. Results were as follows: PARAWERA Leading Competition: Eileen Parish 1, Noki Mangere 2, Tiny McLean 3.
