HARD-UP BALL
A PIRONGIA FUNCTION. Although the weather was very unpleasant the hard-up ball in Pirongia Memorial Hall was quite a success. It was held in aid of collecting Christmas parcels for local soldiers overseas, and all who possibly could attended in “ hard-up ” costume. The music contril uted by Mrs Holmes’ orchestra was very much enjoyed. During the evening the judges (Messrs T. Steel, F. B>ell, and F. Edwards) asked the winners to come forward and accept han.L-ior.ie presents which had been donated by local people. The prize-winners were • the Misses E. McNaughton, Phyllis Sifleet, Green, and Shirley Bell, and Messrs Jim McNaughton, Eric Miller, B. De Fresne, and G. Bainbridge. Winners of the competitions‘were: Hamper, Miss May Robinson (prize donated by Mr and Mrs Alan Hood); cake, Mrs Trevor Bray (prize donated by Mrs G. Lorimer). Many thanks are due to all those who helped in the effort in any way.
