INTERCESSION

YESTERDAY’S SERVICE. The Intercessory Service under the auspices of the combined churches was held yesterday* in the Tolwn Hall when a good congregation assembled. The Rev. M. Calder occupied the chair, and spoke of prayer as a more mighty power than guns. He also pointed out the true setting of prayer as not merelv a help in emergency but an adjustment to God’s perfect will at all tim»?s. The Scripture reading by the Mayor was from John (ch. 14). Those taking part in prayer were the Rev. Forde Carlisle (for those in authority), Rev. H. Spencer (for the Forces), Mrs Cruickshank (for the bereaved and oppressed peoples), and Mr N. Olsen (for the doctors and nurses). Mr s M. G. Sullivan officiated at the piano.
