Dairy farmers throughout the Waikato are experiencing considerable difficulty at the present time with their dairy stock, owing to the prevalence of the so-called grass staggers, milk fever and paralysis. Although no figure can be arrived at, a conservative estimate is that the loss per day to dairy farmers throughout the Waikato would run into thousands. Representations have been made to the Agriculture Department, which (although it has done good work in the past) should at once concentrate on the problem, which is causing the farmers grave concern. It is evident that a considerable number of lorries are at present employed, day and night, removing the carcases of the dead beasts to the boiling down works. One farmer strongly recommends giving the stock a regular quantity of molasses with their feed. It is the considered opinion of anotheT farmer that this ration of molasses, in conjunction with a quantity of bran, would undoubtedly alleviate the trouble.
