VALEDICTORY

MISS ELSIE GRAY ENTERTAINED. A very enjoyable evening was spent last Wednesday at the residence of Mr and Mrs W. Melville, under the auspices of the Pokuru Tennis Club to farewell a popular member of the Club, Miss Elsie Gray, who is leaving shortly to take up nursing. Dancing and games were the order of the evening. After a very tasty supper had been served, Mr A. H. M. Smith (chairman) took the opportunity of saying how much Miss Gray would be missed by the Club and district. All present understood what an important and noble work she was taking up. Mi Smith then asked Miss Gray to accept a fountain pen with the best wishes of the Club. Musical honours were given and Miss Gray suitably replied. Dancing was resumed after which a very happy evening was drawn to a close by the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” Among those present were: Mr and Mrs W. Melville, Mr and Mrs E. H. Melville; Misses E. Gray, G. Law, O. Laurence, I. Ray, B. West, M. McVerry, B. Wilcox, J. Osborne, C. Osborne, P. Melville and G. Penny; Messrs A. H. M. Smith, G. Langdale, S. Langdale, J. Law, C. Budden, H. Budden, E. Gormley, C. Melville, M. Haig, E. Boswell, L. Wilcox, B. McVerry, A. Smart, T. Smait, E. Marx and A. McLeay.
