HERD TESTING
PRODUCTION IN APRIL. LOWER RETURNS. Dairy production during last April was slightly lower than for the corresponding month last year, according to statistics released by the Auckland Herd Improvement Association. Although production thi§ autumn was not quite as high as that for the previous autumn, the higher production last spring and summer more than made up for this deficiency. During the last month 1951 cows were tested by the Association, the average production being 4181 b milk with 23.31 b fat. For the same month last year when 72,430 cows were tested the average production was 4331 b milk with 24.21 b fat. The highest group in the Association for the month was the Mokauiti group of 394 cows, which averaged 291 b fat and 4941 b milk. A small herd of six cows in Pio Pio was the highest producing herd with 421 b fat. The highest individual producer for the month was a cow in the Ngarua group, which yielded 901 b fat.
